Obedience

The Rand Park Dog Training Club, Inc. held its first licensed obedience trial in December of 1950, and has held trials every year since. Our 62nd and 63rdth Obedience Trial was held on Saturday, April 26th and Sunday, April 27th, 2008 at Sports Zone in Melrose Park, Illinois.

Obedience training classes are held on Tuesday nights from 6:45 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at 2222 Birch in Des Plaines, Illinois. All levels of training are offered in the 12 week classes. We hold fall, winter, and spring training sessions.

Advance registration required.

Training dates for the 2008 through 2009 sessions:

Fall orientation: September 2nd, class dates: September 9th thru November 25th, 2008
Winter orientation: December 2nd, class dates: December 9th thru February 17th, 2009
           
Spring orientation: March 3rd, class dates: March 10th thru May 19th, 2009

Sessions are 12 weeks. Training fee is $75.00 for club members, $100.00 for non-members.

CLASSES OFFERED:

Puppy Classes are available to people who have new puppies from the ages of 8 weeks to 6 months of age. This class is very valuable for socializing the new puppy and preparing him for future classes or social situations. General household and behavior training is included.
Beginner Basic exercises such as sits, downs, heeling, recalls, about turns, circling, and figure eights are taught.
Adv.Beginner Exercises learned in beginners class are reviewed and practiced.
Novice All exercises learned during previous classes are practiced and polished with emphasis on preparing the handler.
Intermediate Fine tuning for entering the Novice ring. Students are required to attend fun matches to prepare for what may be their first experience in the show ring.
Pre-Open Students and dogs begin to work with dumbells and jumps.
Open Fine tuning for entering the Open ring.
Pre-Utility Training in Utility exercises: scent discrimination, and directed retrieving and jumping is begun.
Utility Fine tuning for entering the Utility ring.


Summer training sessions are held free of charge for members and guests. Dates, time, and place will be published in the Paw Prints newsletter and available at the training hall.
