FOUNDATION STOCK
SERVICE (FSS)
- Breeds and
Information
FSS registration is
a fairly new service offered by the AKC. This
service is provided by the AKC to allow these
purebred breeds to continue to develop while
providing them with the security of a reliable
and reputable avenue to maintain their records.
FSS breeds are not eligible for AKC registration.
UPDATED: As of January 1st,
2008, FSS breeds are eligible to
compete in AKC events, including obedience,
tracking, and agility events if certain criteria are met.

FUN MATCHES
What is a fun match? A Fun Match
is an informal dog event commonly held by clubs
at which exhibitors and their dogs gain
experience needed for licensed events. Also, the
dog club, judges, and stewards can gain
experience by participating in fun matches. A
Sanctioned Match has been approved by the AKC and
accepts entries, although no points
nor credit toward a title is awarded.

ILP - INDEFINITE
LISTING PRIVILIDGE
An ILP number allows
an unregistered dog of a registerable breed to
participate in those obedience and performance
events that are appropriate for the breed. These
competitive events include Obedience Trials,
Tracking Tests, Herding, Lure Coursing, Agility,
Earthdog Events and Hunting Tests. A dog must
have either an AKC registration number or an ILP
number in order to compete in these events. Click

VERSATILE COMPANION
DOG
As of April, 2000,
the Board of Directors of the American Kennel
Club approved a new Title to be known as
Versatile Companion Dog Title, effective January
1st, 2001, to encourage handlers to cross-train
their dogs and enter different events. The new
title has five levels depending on the earned
titles in Obedience, Agility and Tracking.
